Comparison Between Sidearm and Overhand Throw in Softball

Fajar Awang Irawan Sport Science Department, Semarang State University, Indonesia. Email: fajarawang@gmail.com The good throws need acceleration, and acceleration starts from maximum lateral rotation with the ball come quickly to the target. The aim of this study was to investigate the comparison between sidearm and overhand throws . Total 5 0 participants join in this study (Age 20.9 ±0.4, Height 168.9±5.3, and Mass 58.8±5.3 ). Sidearm and overhand throws were tested in one minute . Dartfish software version 4.5.2.0 is used to analyzed throwing motion. The paired t-test in this study was p < 0.05 to analyze the data . The sidearm and overhand throw s had significant differences with the average in one minute was 18.0 times and overhand throw was 15.5 times. Base on the motion analysis view in Dartfish, sidearm throw was more effective than overhand throw. Which is sidearm throw simpler and faster than over hand throw. Key words: Sidearm throw, Over hand throw, Soft

The Effectiveness of Sidearm Throw in Softball Players

Fajar Awang Irawan Semarang State University, Indonesia Abstract Introduction: The good throws need acceleration, and acceleration starts from maximum lateral rotation with the ball come quickly to the target. The aim of this study was to investigate the comparison between sidearm and overhand throws. Method: 60 players participate in this study (age 20.9±0.4, Height 168.9±5.3, Weight 58.8±5.3 and BMI 20.6±1.8). All participants are beginner and they are right handed. Throw test in this study were sidearm and overhand throws technique with ten meters in one minute. Stopwatch is used to calculate the time for sidearm throw and overhand throw, and Dartfish software version 4.5.2.0 is used to analyze throwing motion. The paired t-test in this study was p < 0.05 to analyze the data. Result: The sidearm and overhand throws had significant differences with the average in one minute was 18.08 times and overhand throw was 15.55 times. Base on the motion analysis view in

Proper technique execution of those throwing may help pitchers to develop and increase control over ball flight-pattern, speed and accuracy. Several previous studies have argued if teaching curveball to young pitchers involves greater injury risk before the age of 13 years old. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanics between fastball and curveball of young pitchers to determine whether curveball pitching is more dangerous and has more risk of injuries than fastball. Methods: A thorough literature review was conducted using PubMed, SAGE, and Elsevier. The articles were searched from March 25
